Littlewood: the world is saved, so now it's time to build and settle down as the hero.

Image
The Dark Wizard has been vanquished! Peace has finally come to the land of Solemn and it's about darn time to chill. And some fishing. Littlewood is a charming town building / life-sim / RPG where you are the Hero who saved the land of Solemn by vanquishing the Dark Wizard. In Littlewood, the world has been saved but at the cost of the your memories. You start out as having no recollection of the past, thus you are tasked of building the town from scratch and making friends (which is easy to do in videogames unlike RL). No, I wasn't trying to cross the border and I didn't walk right into that imperial ambush this time. Littlewood features crafting, building, mining, farming, and fishing. Players will meet and make friends along the way who will also live in your town. Fair warning, there is also romance in the game, so you do you. Players will be able to terraform and decorate the exterior of the town; then craft and design the interior of the villagers' houses as well....

My Time at Portia: Review

Image
This game - where have you been 10 years ago? My Time at Portia is a quaint simulation RPG game where you rebuild your father's workshop and create a new life in the land of Portia. You start off as repairing the dilapidated workshop to gaining fame by completing commissions from the citizens of Portia. As a workshop builder, players will need to help Portia prosper and fulfill commissions as requested by the numerous NPC citizens throughout the land. However, there's also a few rivals that will try to compete for business. You are after all the newcomer in Portia. My Time at Portia is a cute and happy game, although it takes place on a dark setting of a post-apocalyptic world. It's developed by Pathea Games and published by Team 17 (publisher of Worms 3D, Survivalist, and Overcooked). The graphics remind me of a cute MMO - and honestly, it plays like an MMO too. It would've been great if this game was released ten years ago, because there's a lot of playtime in thi...

Animal Crossing: New Horizons update will let you teleport!

Image
Valentine's Day and the Festivale holiday ended, and I enjoyed them, but a new Animal Crossing: New Horizons trailer update drops via Nintendo Direct with new Super Mario themed items coming over to our islands next week. To celebrate the 35th anniversary, Super Mario themed items are coming into the game on March 1, while the update will be released on February 25, 2021. These items will be available via Tom Nook shopping.  Moreover, March 20th is also approaching which will mark Animal Crossing: New Horizon's first anniversary. Honestly, I think New Horizon players, new and old, will use this date so that they can stream more of their games. Looking back, there has been plenty of updates that have gone our way including the summer update - namely swimming (which southern hemisphere players are currently enjoying). The update is perfect for those players who wish to turn their island into a obstacle course,  but the warp pipe is simply the most useful item out of this updat...

My First Island on Animal Crossing: New Horizons

Image
Animal Crossing was one of the first games that I bought when I got my Nintendo GameCube. I skipped the N64 after Famicom, so I wanted to reacquaint myself with Nintendo. The Internet was still new back then, but I've been hearing fun things about Animal Crossing from friends, and magazines, so I wanted to see what's the big deal.  Animal Crossing: Population Growing for the Nintendo GameCube was a game that piqued my curiosity when I read on the back-cover that it's supposedly synced to real-time, which means new things are happening in the game even if I'm not playing. The truth is still charming though when the game is simply tied to the system's clock, where the days and nights are synced on the game as well as the current season. Such a captivating premise was unlike any current farming or life sims back then; in addition, Animal Crossing did not demand of anything from me; there was no deadline, no healt...

Animal Crossing: New Horizons update will add Festivale event and more!

Image
It's going to get busy again on the island! Image source: @chosenground Another free update has been announced on animal-crossing.com for the winter! Since Animal Crossing: New Horizons' initial release last March 20, we've seen two major updates sporting big events, namely the Summer update which reintroduced swimming and new critters, and the Fall update with pumpkin farms and seasonal holidays. Now, we're going to see the winter update with Pavé the dancing peacock and the Festivale event taking place on February 15. There will be other seasonal items to celebrate since Valentine's Day, Groundhog Day, and Big Game Celebrations are coming up. What's important is that Nintendo announced the next upcoming free update after this. I do want to ask, why they call it a "free" update. Does this mean there will be a "paid" update or is it more for Marketing as free is an incentive word.  The peacock on this event, Pavé, is a returning character and...

Forager - wow, I'm addicted.

Forager - wow, I'm addicted. Forager is an absurdly addicting game where you start with building a small base on a tiny island, gather resources, and buy neighboring lands to expand your manufacturing empire.  I have the game on Steam and I couldn't turn away after several hours of playthrough as there are apparently other things that adults must do. Ugh. Responsibilities! PROS: It's easy to pick up, but difficult to put down! Premise looks promising Build and battle Mighty portable More free content coming up CONS: One pet per play No multiplayer Hold one key for most of the time FPS bug on PC? It's easy to pick up, but difficult to put down! (top) Forager is easy to grasp: the player goes around mining rocks, chopping trees, harvesting resources in order to build structures to c...

Subsistence - barely survive AND build a mansion

Image
A Subsistence first impression game review. Subsistence is an indie survival first-person shooter where the players need to keep themselves fed and build a base for shelter against the elements. Players will hunt for food, keep hydrated, and protect  themselves from wild animals (and hostile hunters later on). In short, failure to keep the most basic need for survival means starting over. It's a frustratingly difficult game in the beginning that requires a lot of trial and error, but consider it an achievement once a working base is up and running.  Here is my computer system: CPU: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-7700k CPU @ 4.20GHz RAM: 16 GB DDR4 GPU: Nvidia GeForce GTX 1070x2 8GB GDDR5 Display: 27" MSI Optix AG32C 165Hz PROS True to the title - you must survive each day Rewarding when supplies have stabilized Interesting AI mechanic where hostile hunters build bases Predators level up when they get you CONS Challenging hunt for materials Lack of direction in the b...
